The Government Will Buy Out Land And Homes On Mississippi Beachfront

The government plans to buy 17,000 homes. They will be replaced by levees and barriers. This plan by the "Mississippi Coastal Improvement Program" may cost nearly 40 billion dollars.

They deny that the land will be sold to developers. It is supposed to be for public use only. The purpose of buying the land is supposedly to protect the coast from hurricanes.

But some of the people in the area think this will be a resort area full of beaches and casinos.
