A STUDY FINDS VICKS BAD FOR YOUNGSTERS

Research published by the American College of Chest Physicians has found Vick's may clog a young child's airways by increasing mucus and slowing it's removal. The author Dr. Bruce Rubin of the Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University, N.C.said, "I recommend never putting Vick's in, or under, the nose of anybody."

He said cough and cold medicines and decongestants were not good for young children. He recommends salt water, warm drinks, and chicken soup. Proctor and Gamble, the makers of Vick's slammed the study saying it is based on tests from ferrets.

Dr Rubin began the study after caring for an 18 mo-old girl at his hospital who developed severe respiratory distress after vaporub was put under her nose.
